Questions to Ponder

A question can do what an explanation cannot: it turns the field's attention back on itself. An answer can be received and filed; a question must be operated — the field has to hold the gap, run its own structure against it, and see what separates. The questions below are not a quiz. Each one is a small demand, placed on the reader's own field.

The objective here is not to test knowledge, but to give thinking something to examine: what the field holds, what it separates, what it ignores, what it trades, what it assumes. Some questions have answers developed on this site — those carry a link. Others stand alone: they belong to the reader, and no page answers them for anyone.

The Main Observation

A question asked of the field is not the same as a question asked of memory. Memory answers with what it holds; the field answers with what it is — its structure, its separations, its load. That is why the useful question is rarely "what do I know about this?" and more often "what is this doing to my field?" — the first retrieves, the second examines. A question that cannot be answered from memory is not an unanswerable question; it is an instruction to look at the structure instead of the content.

What This Means

A question is a structure handed to the reader: the field receives a gap and must organise itself around it. The questions above are grouped the way the site's concepts are grouped — because a question about the field lands differently before a question about work, and a question about examining lands differently once the field knows what it examines. The order is part of the tool.

The linked questions return the reader to mechanics that are developed in full; the standing-alone questions return the reader to themselves. Both do the same work: they place a small demand on the field, and the field answers with its structure — whatever that structure is today.
